By Heat: Boiling the paraffin sections in 10mM citrate buffer, pH6.0, for 20mins is required for the staining of formalin/paraffin sections. Other applications have not been tested. Optimal dilutions should be determined by end users.

Protein Function :
Transcriptional modulator activated by BMP (bone morphogenetic proteins) type 1 receptor kinase. SMAD1 is a receptor-regulated SMAD (R-SMAD) (By similarity). May play a role in the initiation and maintenance of spermatogenesis. SMAD1/OAZ1/PSMB4 complex mediates the degradation of the CREBBP/EP300 repressor SNIP1 (By similarity). May act synergistically with SMAD4 and YY1 in bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-mediated cardiac-specific gene expression (PubMed:15329343).
Subcellular Localization :
Cytoplasm. Nucleus. In the cytoplasm in the absence of ligand. Migration to the nucleus when complexed with SMAD4. Colocalizes with LEMD3 at the nucleus inner membrane (By similarity).

SMAD1 belongs to the SMAD, a family of proteins similar to the gene products of the Drosophila gene "mothers against decapentaplegic" (Mad) and the C. elegans gene Sma. The gene was assigned to human chromosome 4q31.21. SMAD proteins are signal transducers and transcriptional modulators that mediate multiple signaling pathways.
