Trichomonas vaginalis is an aerobic, flagellated protozoan and the causative agent of trichomoniasis, the most common pathogenic protozoan infection of humans in industrialised countries. Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted infection. While women suffer from a variety of symptoms, in men the infection is often asymptomatic. The infection can be successfully treated with antibiotics.
