Epitopes of Epcam/1158 and Epcam/1159 monoclonal antibodies are different. EGP40 is a 40-43kDa transmembrane epithelial glycoprotein, also identified as epithelial specific antigen (ESA), or epithelial cellular adhesion molecule (Ep-CAM). It is expressed on baso-lateral cell surface in most simple epithelia and a vast majority of carcinomas.

Flow Cytometry (5-10ul/million cells). Immunofluorescence (1:50-1:100). Western Blot (1:100-1:200). Immunohistology (Formalin-fixed) (1:50-1:100; 30 min at RT) (Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires boiling tissue sections in 10mM Citrate Buffer, pH 6.0, for 10-20 min followed by cooling at RT for 20 minutes). Optimal dilution for a specific application should be determined.

EPCAM: a single-pass type I membrane protein of the EPCAM family. May act as a physical homophilic interaction molecule between intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) and intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) at the mucosal epithelium for providing immunological barrier as a first line of defense against mucosal infection. Expressed in almost all epithelial cell membranes but not on mesodermal or neural cell membranes. Found on the surface of adenocarcinomas including pancreatic carcinoma.
