Function: Key component of innate and adaptiveimmunity. TLRs (Toll-like receptors) controlhost immune response against pathogensthrough recognition of molecular patterns specific to microorganisms. TLR3 is anucleotide-sensing TLR which is activated bydouble-stranded RNA, a sign of viral infection.Acts via the adapter TRIF/TICAM1, leading toNF-kappa-B activation, IRF3 nucleartranslocation, cytokine secretion and theinflammatory response. Cellular Location: Endoplasmic reticulum membrane;Single-pass type I membrane protein.Endosome membrane. Early endosome. Tissue Location: Expressed at high level in placenta andpancreas. Also detected in CD11c+ immaturedendritic cells. Only expressed in dendriticcells and not in other leukocytes, includingmonocyte precursors.
